History of Eddukkan
Over long centuries, the Arab and Muslim peoples in the Middle and Far East have produced a wealth of traditional costumes, and have passed on, from one generation to another, the skills and secrets involved in mastering the craft of making them. The diversity in dress style and cut, embroidery patterns and motifs, decoration elements and techniques, colors and fabrics, reflects the regional identity and local history of each village, oases, town and country in this culturally rich land.
In the recent decades, western style, mass produced dress has been displacing traditional ways of dressing, and particularly these elaborate, time-consuming, often expensive, hand made costumes, which women made and wore on their bridal and other ceremonial occasions.
ED-DUKKAN finds in this legacy of traditional costumes its great source of inspiration. (ED-DUKKAN produces a line of garments serving to preserve and promote the art, aesthetics and skills of costume making, a rich part of our cultural heritage.)
or (The talented people working in ED-DUKKAN make an extra-ordinary effort in ensuring the survival of age-old traditions of Egyptian craftsmanship, and in promoting the aesthetics of the Arab and Islamic cultural heritage.)
In line with the great traditions of costume making in this land, we use a variety of techniques and elements of dress decoration: cotton and silken thread embroidery, beading, appliqué, patchwork, tassels, gold and silver coins and mother of pearl buttons, to name some.
ED-DUKKAN garments are embroidered and tailored by an elite of Egyptian skilled craftsmen, and are made of the best, natural silk, cotton, linen and wool, often hand-woven and hand-dyed exclusively for ED-DUKKAN.
Over twenty years of hard work, ED-DUKKAN grew from one woman's dream, to a small workshop, to a big, professional enterprise, relying on modern management systems, while keeping the same spirit of a family (, and the passion of amateurs) to achieve the highest standards of quality and excellence for every garment carrying the label of ED-DUKKAN.
"Each dress of ED-DUKKAN tells its own little, big tale .. Wear it proudly."
