Shams El-Itribi
Eddukkan Founder
The youngest sister of 5 siblings, Shams El-Itribi displayed an amazing aptitude for both fashion and business at a very early age. In 1983 Shams founded Eddukkan enterprise, the roots of which were founded in a tiny room in her apartment building located on 3 Arafat Street, in Giza, Egypt. Today and after 2 decades, Eddukkan is a well known and respected chain of top-of-the line Ethnic Egyptian women’s garments.
Shams continue to be involved in the creation and design of all her garments. It is not an uncommon practice for her to discard the fruits of hours of hard work, just because a single stitch did not meet her expectations. Every stitch is a word that culminates a folkloric tale of the rich Egyptian heritage displayed in her gowns.
Impressed with her work, the Louver Museum of Paris, France extended an invitation to Shams in 2001, to share with the world her art and creation. The Nubian, Delta and Meet-Hamal, to a name few are among the sub-Egyptian folkloric cultures that have influenced Shams over the years. However nothing or no one has influenced her as much as her soul-mate Shahira Mehriz. It was Shahira that put her on the path and mentored her at a very early stage of her journey.
It is apparent that Shams has not even touch the crust of what she is capable of, evident by the fact she continues to question what she is capable of.
